Resupply Heavy Lift Hoverbarge

Barge1 5 (1)

The Heavy Lift Hoverbarge is engineered as a mission-critical logistics platform for remote, ice-bound, and infrastructure-poor regions. Its design incorporates a rigid welded aluminium hull with a modular machinery configuration, enabling rapid maintenance and high system redundancy in challenging environments.

At over 40 metres in length and nearly 25 metres in beam, the craft is optimised to transport 150+ tonnes of payload whether heavy machinery, prefabricated modules, or fuel tanks across varied terrain including thick ice, wetlands, and tidal flats. The propulsion and lift systems are split into identical, self-contained modules (five thrust, three lift), allowing simplified replacement and easier spares management for continuous operations.

Operational Capability:

  • High Payload Capacity: Carries over 150 tonnes of cargo across varied surfaces including ice, mudflats, and shallow waters.

  • Modular Propulsion & Lift Units: Identical plug-and-play modules simplify maintenance and enable rapid repair without specialist tools.

  • Cold Climate Design: Operates in extreme weather down to -40°C with reinforced skirt design and protected systems layout.

  • All-Terrain Mobility: 2.7m hover height enables clearance over ice ridges, rocky foreshores, and uneven terrain.

  • Aluminium Alloy Hull: Welded construction ensures strength-to-weight balance and corrosion resistance in marine environments.

Engineered for demanding operations in remote and infrastructure-deficient regions, this hoverbarge concept delivers a unique capability: high-payload transport over terrain traditionally inaccessible to wheeled or hull-based platforms.

  • Category: Extreme Terrain Logistics & Cold Climate Operations

  • Type: High-Capacity Air Cushion Transport Platform

  • Length: ~40 metres
Beam: ~25 metres
Payload
  • Capacity: 150 tonnes

  • Crew: ~12

  • Operating Range: Arctic, tundra, and shallow estuarine environments

  • Key Roles: Heavy equipment transport, Arctic logistics, pipeline support, non-infrastructure cargo movement

The design combines proven hovercraft operating principles with modular engineering - including interchangeable propulsion and lift units to streamline maintenance and reduce downtime in field conditions. Capable of operating over soft tundra, ice ridges, flood zones, and coastal shallows, the craft is optimised for resilience, low-ground pressure, and extended endurance in extreme temperatures.
